On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the congregation of St. Paul United Church of Christ had a chance to greet and say farewell to Rev. Dr. Patricia Kenney, who has served as pastor of the church for almost eight years.
Kenney has accepted a position with St. John United Church of Christ in Jackson.
Congregants and the youth choir provided her a musical tribute, with Jean Wilson conducting.
The service included a beautiful solo by Brenda Finkbeiner, ”Well Done, My Faithful Servant.”
The pastor’s sermon also included music, as she sang acapella “You lift me up.”
At the close of the service, Kenney and her husband, Tom Fraser, greeted each person as they left the sanctuary. Many of the congregants wanted a hug from Pastor Kenney.
“It’s always mixed feelings when we send somebody off,” commented Jeff Lange, president of the congregation. “We’re happy we had the time with her that we had. We wish her the best in her new position.”
Following the service, the congregation was treated to a catered luncheon at the church.
The congregation is in the process of selecting a new pastor.
